ASMA: Launch of Welfare Fund for Assembly Members

2026 Launch of Welfare Fund for Assembly Members Assembly Members within the Municipality have officially launched a Welfare Scheme aimed at supporting members both during their service and after their tenure on the 27th March, 2026 at the forecourt of the Assembly. The launch, held at the Assembly’s forecourt, marked the maiden edition of the initiative and attracted key stakeholders, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), traditional leaders, Assembly Members, and staff of the Assembly.

In his remarks, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paul Osae Offei, commended the initiative and encouraged members to remain committed to their responsibilities and work diligently for the development of the Municipality. He further demonstrated his support by donating GHS 25,000 and pledged an additional GHS 10,000 as part of the scheme’s seed capital.

The Presiding Member, Hon. Michael Ahwireng, in his address, praised his colleagues for successfully establishing the scheme. He emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency in managing the fund, noting that a formal bank account has been opened with two designated signatories to ensure proper financial management. He encouraged members to contribute regularly to sustain the scheme and indicated that only contributing members would benefit from it. Hon. Ahwireng also contributed GHS 5,000 as seed funding.

Additional contributions toward the scheme’s seed capital were made by Assembly Members, traditional leaders, and Heads of Department, reflecting a collective commitment to the initiative.

In his closing remarks, the Presiding Member expressed appreciation to all contributors for laying a strong foundation for the scheme’s sustainability. He urged members to put aside political differences and work in unity toward the growth and development of the Municipality.
